The goals of incorporating purpose, learning, and discovery are:
Keep the brain plastic. This means that our minds are able to strengthen themselves and adapt. Plasticity is what makes our brains resilient.
Build cognitive reserve. When we build and strengthen neural networks, we create a “backup” system. This causes our brains to function better/longer even in the presence of brain change.
Create a Sense of Purpose. Motivation is an important factor in managing stress and the effects that it can have on the body and mind. A strong sense of purpose also increases the likelihood we will engage in activities that promote brain health on an on-going basis.
